Parent letter of affirmation to First Eucharist Candidate (Parents please review this 2 weeks prior to the retreat!) Parent meeting:
Parents are the
primary teachers of the Sacrament. We develop activities and
choose materials that help the parent fulfill his/her role. The
parents determine readiness for the Sacraments. We assist you in
seeing the signs of age appropriate understanding of Eucharist. First Eucharist Enrollment:
Children are
enrolled in the preparation program during weekend Mass.
Parents and children begin the formal preparation at this event.
Children / Parents who are not ready for the Sacrament may suspend the
child's preparation at any time. First Eucharist Parent / Child
education night and pot-luck:
Parent(s) and child share a meal, discussions, and do a project
that helps them better understand Eucharist.
Please be prompt so that you child does not miss something fun.
First Eucharist blessing weekend
and first meeting with mentor,
Children are blessed by their parent(s) during Mass. They
are assigned a volunteer mentor, a member of their parish who will pray
for them, praise them for what they have learned about Eucharist, and
encourage them in the final stages of preparation. Parents will be
within eyesight of their children during the mentor / child meetings.
Meeting with mentor: The child completes the First Eucharist lessons and has a second meeting with a mentor between March 15 and April 15. First Eucharist Retreat:
Children attend a
3 hour retreat - fun learning activities, snacks, and practice.
Parents join us for the last 45 minutes.
Parents write a
letter of affirmation to
First Eucharist Candidate (Parents please review this 2 weeks prior to
the retreat!) First Eucharist: At all parish Masses, April 24-25. (except 6:30 PM Mass at St. Joseph). Parents may choose a different date, in consultation with the parish schedule. |
